The eBook Formula for Freelance Writers

How Much Can You Earn as an eBook Author?

So how much can you really make? Hugh Howey, one of biggest success stories of self-publishing, has sold over a million copies of his runaway success novel, Wool. Howey recognizes that he's an outlier – not every self-published author is making as much as he does. But Howey loves to support other writers in any way he can. So he decided to conduct some research into how many writers are making a small but steady income from their craft. In an online writing forum, he asked how many writers were making between $100 and $500 per month selling self-published ebooks. The response shocked Howey. Not because he struggled to get responses. But because, in Howey's own words: “Every response I received started with a variation of: 'I’m actually making a lot more than that.'”

Howey heard from Jan Strand, who in January 2012 made over $11,000 from his self-published novels. He received a response from Rachel Schurig, who sold over 100,000 ebooks in one year and cleared a six-figure income. He also heard from Rick Gualtieri, who made over $25,000 in 2012, and Amanda Brice, who makes a nice side-income of $750 per month.

If you know how to spin a good yarn, and if you connect with the right audience, you can earn a good living selling your own ebooks. And remember, you only have to write a book once for it to start earning money. After you've written and published that eBook, you continue earning royalties from the work for as long as it continues to sell. And the more books you write, the more you earn.

The book is only $3.5 or Ksh 300 for those in Kenya.

How to Earn on iWriter

The review is about iwiter, a gem that has literally taken the Internet like a storm. The site great for beginners as well as established writers who would love to add another site to the list.
The site is a platform designed to supply the clients with articles of varied topics.

Getting started

It’s among the easiest sites to start and get going. You just sign up here: http://www.iwriter.com/affiliate/162708
and then login. Each writer starts at the standard level and the articles are rated by the site as well as the client. The more one writes, the faster he/she moves up the levels hence access higher paying articles.

One can get started immediately after signing in instead of waiting for the editor to approve the work.

The Dashboard

The Dashboard is somehow busy although some time one gets the used to it.

At the top of the Dashboard is where the writer sees his/her rating and rank. Initially everyone starts at one star, showing the rank for a standard writer. When you move the mouse over the stars you get to know more about increasing your position in the site’s system.
You’ll also see the inbox and the account balance here.
Edit your profile on the dashboard. Include the photo/logo and a biography .Because payment is via Paypal, include an email that’s linked to a Paypal account.

You will also see a list of most prolific writers/highest paid writers and even your own statistics. With luck and hard work you may soon be showcased as one of the top writers!
There’s also an affiliate link to add to your website/blog

Finding Projects

One can select the type of writing he/she wants to do e.g ebooks, articles, or rewrites. One can also choose the category, language or even the word count that he/she you wants. You can also input specific topics, then search.
Each job tells you who the requester is and their approval rating as well as the job specifics. You can also know the average approval time for the client. The longest period that one can wait is 3days. After which the system accepts the article automatically.
Always click on the left side of the job to check for special instructions to be followed. You can also contact the client for clarification. Click on the button to start writing.

Editing

They run the article through Copyscape so as to check for any plagiarism. If there’s a problem the article is returned for editing or is rejected out rightly.
Ratings and ranks
This is an important aspect of the website. The higher the ratings and the more articles one writes the higher the ranking. Best paying assignments are normally reserved for such writers.
Essentially, you need to write at least 30articles and be with a rating of 4stars so as be at the Premium level. Once you get to 4.6 stars you become an Elite writer. The ratings which count are those from the clients, the site only counts the articles. It’s hence important to do a great job for the client and also pay attention to the types of client. Clients who reject work often and are extremely demanding may not really be worth working for.
Writers can also write reviews of clients. This can help other writers to know how fast that client approves projects.

Favorite writers

It’s possible for clients to keep a list of the favorite writers hence specifically request those writers to do their project. One can also decline the project. You receive additional 5% income for the project you’re requested to write.
Payment
Writers are paid 81% of the contracted amount and (86% if one is specifically requested). Payment is made after the account reaches $20 through Paypal. It can be done:
Weekly: Tuesday
Bi-Weekly: Every Wednesday
Monthly: 5th / 25th
The $20 minimum threshold is quite easy to meet. Initially though the goal should be to get to the higher earning-brackets (Premium and Elite) levels.

Tips for iWriter success

• Set up all notifications for those topics which interest you
• When alerted, act swiftly. Great articles are often grabbed quickly.
• Mondays are when most new articles are added. So get up early
